If the kids have been mithering you to get a family pet then you may have been saying no for ages. This doesn’t mean you don’t want one, it just means you are busy thinking about the best one to get. There are many options out there, however, you will need to think about how much time you can offer your pet. If you are out of the house for most of the day then there is no point getting a dog as they crave human company and can become destructive when they get bored. Take a look below for some great family pet options.

Dog

A dog is man’s best friend, this means that they will fit right in with you and your family. When asked what pet people prefer, a high number came out with dogs. They make great companions and will always be waiting for you when you get home. However, as mentioned above, you will need to be able to dedicate a great deal of time to a dog. If you don’t have that then it wouldn’t be fair to bring a dog into the family home just now. A dog also needs ample space to run around in, if you don’t have a decent-sized garden then it may be best to wait until you do.

Cat

Another option for an amazing family pet is a cat. If you don’t have time to dedicate to a dog but still want something fluffy to call your own then a cat could do this. They love human affection, however, it will always be on their own terms. Cats make the rules and as their owner, you must follow them. Cats can be indoors or outdoors however, they do prefer to roam and wander around whenever they want. If you want your cat to be safe at all times, take a look at how you can cat proof your garden

Rodent

If a dog or a cat is not something you want your children to have the responsibility of owning then how about something much smaller? A hamster or a mouse is a lovely first pet for your children to learn how to take care of them. They are low-maintenance and you can encourage your children to feed them and clean them out. Hamsters can be a fun pet to own as they can run about in their ball.

Fish

Something else you might like to consider is a fish, especially if this is a first family pet. Children need to learn responsibility and how to care for animals before they get something less hardy. Fish are very low-maintenance pets and will only need to be cleaned out every couple of weeks. However, do be aware that fish require a big enough tank, gone are the days of goldfish bowls. Do your research, and look into which fish you want to own. Cold water fish are the easiest, then tropical, and marine are the hardest. They are fascinating to watch and can provide hours of entertainment.

We hope you found this article helpful and that it gave you some ideas on what the best type of pet could be for your family. Make sure you think long and hard about which one you want to get and ensure you can dedicate the right amount of time and love to whichever one you get.

I do think people need to consider good
Breeders who breed to
Standards and do all the health testing on their dogs before matching the parents for the best outcome. These breeders also take the time to
Get to know the potential homes and figure out what puppy is the best one for the new home.
People should be doing their homework and not just finding the cutest puppy they find first and that is the new dog they bring home! Research the breed, the breeder, and all health issues that come along with getting a quality bred dog Vs someone who just has random

So, how do we explain this relatively recent phenomenon of dogs becoming not just our best friend, but our constant companion (when they are allowed to be)?

Unfortunately, not many people before getting a dog understand that dogs require care and attention, and then give their pets to shelters. I, too, am a dog owner, and I have always treated my dog well. However, I have had a problem with storing food for my big, furry pet. Thanks to this helpful resource, Dog food brands on bestdogfood.expert, I was able to choose a great food option, and I also found a reliable dog food container.
